Two-time British Olympic champion middle distance runner Sebastian Coe has praised the work of the volunteers to be present at the 2023 IAAF World Athletics Championships to be held in Budapest from 19 to 27 August.
„Good or great events: the difference is created by volunteers” – that's the gist of what Sebastian Coe had to say in a video message about the work of the volunteers who will be present at the 2023 IAAF World Athletics Championships to be held in Budapest from 19 to 27 August.
The event, which will take place at the National Athletics Centre, will bring together more than 2,000 athletes from 200 countries, 3,500 journalists and 2,500 volunteers. The Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) plays a major role in training and coordinating the volunteers.
“From the first moment I became a journeying athlete and making my way through the sport right through to the point where I was responsible for the delivery of London Olympic and Paralympic games, and then subsequent to that world championships, I recognized one immutable fact that the difference between a good games and a great games is the work of the volunteers. They are absolutely essential in delivering sport at virtually every level. From the earliest days in my sport, they were the ones cutting sandwiches in clubhouses, driving me to events and making sure that my kit was laundered before I came back for the next event. And at the highest level, they are the ones that have often been greeting people when they've been arriving, whether they're the media, whether they're spectators, whether they are the support teams for all our athletes at airports, the events do not run without them. This event, like every other event in sport, would simply be unrecognizable if it were not for the diligence and the passion of our volunteers. So thank you. Thank you for giving us your most crucial asset your time, your patience and your passion”, says Coe in the video message which you can view here:
The Hungarian University of Sports Science has undertaken to train the volunteer coordinators of the Budapest 2023 IAAF World Athletics Championships, the university's Csörsz Street facility will be one of the training venues for the World Championships during the event. The university will also host a one-day professional conference with the world's most prominent sports scientists and last but not least professional coaches from the world of athletics are to gather around for the Coaches' Club's daily events at the university campus.
