TF participates in an international research program and conference in Thailand

A delegation led by Dr Miklós Bánhidi paid a study visit to Nong Bua Lamphu in Thailand.

Under the coordination of Dr Miklós Bánhidi, associate professor of the Department of Recreation at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (TF), and Head of the World Leisure Youth Ambassador, academics and students from 8 countries travelled to Nong Bua Lamphu, on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand, to study sustainability indicators of the oceanfront environment and tourism-based settlement from a sports, tourism, economic and environmental science perspective.

Marcell Péchy, a first-year TF student studying sport organisation, also joined the group.

The participants used both qualitative and quantitative research methods, the results of which will be summarised in an international publication in the near future. The first results of the study clearly demonstrate the global problems that are also felt locally, how climate change affects outdoor sports and tourism activities in the municipality, how it causes the decline of certain economic sectors and the increase in environmental pressures resulting from the growth of tourism. However, positive examples include the community cohesion experienced there, the increase in organic farming projects, the impact of the launching of sporting, environmental and educational campaigns.

At the end of the one-week-long program, the participants successfully made a presentation at an international conference held at the National Sports University of Thailand's Bangkok campus, and signed a cooperation agreement to continue the research. As a next step, we would like the researchers to carry out their research in other locations abroad and in Hungary, and present the results at our conferences.
