Members of the International Relations Center from the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) attended the second Forum on Sports Diplomacy on 19 September 2023, organized by Dr Anna Mladenovics, Head of Liszt Institute of Zagreb.
The forum showcased the results and lessons of sports diplomacy of the 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest.
Among the participants were the Secretary General of the Croatian Athletics Federation Mihaela Vidović, PR Manager Ivana Loncarek, International Director of the Croatian Olympic Committee Mia Bacic, Vice Rector of the University of Zagreb Jasenka Ostojic, Editor-in-Chief of Sportska Televizija Jura Ozmec, Márton Gyulai, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Sports at WA several diplomats, representatives of national sports federations, sports clubs, and the press.
Mr Gyulai shared the results of the World Athletics Championships, followed by Slovenian diplomat Tamara Plankar’s presentation on European Youth Olympic Festival in Maribor, focusing on the volunteers and the success of the event.
Dr Judit Kádár, Director of International Relation Centre at HUSS and associate professor of the Sports Management Department explored the relevance of soft skill development in athletes’ second career and took the opportunity to introduce HUSS’s latest English-language course the Sports Diplomacy Program (SDP) to be launched in January 2024. Professor Marko Begovic of the University of Molde, Norway and Nikola Tesla University, Serbia, SDP core team member, had sent a video message to the Zagreb forum.
The roundtable discussion was moderated by Filip Brkić, well-known Croatian sports commentator and sports journalist. The guests included Márton Gyulai, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of WA Budapest 2023 Nonprofit Zrt., Dr Miklós Gór-Nagy, Head of Sports at the Hungarian Water Polo Association, Bruno Šundov, Croatian NBA basketball player, Jasmin Cuturic, Slovenian national volleyball player and coach.
