On 27 April, the professional conference titled "Women in Hungarian Tennis Life" was held at the House of Hungarian Sport.
The event, which was organised by Dr Andrea Gál, Head of the Department of Social Sciences of the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), was attended by two-time Grand Slam champion Mary Pierce.
"The idea for the event came from the fact that last year I won a grant with my research partner Dr Katalin Orbán-Sebestyén through TEKA's internal grant scheme, which allowed us to conduct a survey among female tennis coaches. As I am a member of the Women's Committee of the Hungarian Tennis Federation, I thought that I could help the development of the sport by publishing our results not only in the form of a publication but also in a conference. Finally, we organised the event together with the Sportsociology Committee of the Hungarian Society for Sports Science. The conference was opened by Dr. Miklós Tóth, President of the Hungarian Society for Sports Science and Csilla Sütő, Secretary General of the Hungarian Tennis Federation. The conference was attended not only by myself, but also by Marcell Dékány, Assistant Professor of the Department of Sport, and Katalin Orbán-Sebestyén, who gave a presentation. The audience included our university ambassador, Katalin Schmittné Makray, the President of Vasas Sport Club, László Markovits and several former first-class tennis players," said the head of the department.
There were two surprise guests at the event: Mary Pierce, two-time French Grand Slam singles champion and Judy Murray, one of the most renowned women's tennis coaches. They both welcomed the Hungarian tennis fans. The conference ended with a round table discussion.
