A considerable interest was shown in the 1st Strength and Sports Science Conference organised by the Hungarian Football Association at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS). The event was attended by Hungary men's senior manager Marco Rossi.
Weeks before the event, registration for the training was already closed and the university’s TF Athens room was full by 9 am on Thursday, February 16.
The conference was opened by Dr Róbert Barczi, Sports Director of the Hungarian Football Association (HFA), who pointed out at the beginning of his speech that due to the great interest, the event had to be moved from the 120-seat conference hall of the HFA training centre in Telki to the university’s largest lecture hall, thanks to this, nearly 300 people participated in the conference.
"We are pleased to see that there is a huge demand for our training topics. These lectures help us see where we need to improve and where the world is going. Hungarian football has developed a lot in recent years, but this does not mean that we can sit back, because we need to improve our footballers in all areas. Even if we can't learn everything we hear here today, we can learn the principles and the basics of conscious work”, he expressed.
The event began with a presentation by Chris Barnes, Visiting Professor at Staffordshire University, with extensive Premier League experience, on "Using measurement data and coaching decision support in practice", followed by two presentations by Christopher Carling, Head of Sports Science at the French Football Federation, on sports science measurement in French youth teams and on research and innovation at the French Football Federation.
In addition to Gábor Schuth, the strength and conditioning coach of the adult and junior national teams of Hungary, Bence Márk Kovács, PhD student at HUSS, and the strength and conditioning coach of 33-time Hungarian champions Ferencváros, spoke about the analysis of the physical training of the club’s footballers, with a special focus on the team's Europa League success. Gábor Schuth's presentation was listened to by Marco Rossi, manager of the Hungarian national team with his assistant Cosimo Inguscio.
The conference concluded with a roundtable discussion.
